The Science of Primer Backing

Why high-performance primer coating is essential for long-term peel resistance, heat aging, and moisture barrier integrity.

PVC is inherently non-polar, which makes direct adhesion to porous wood substrates challenging without surface functionalization.

How Primer Works

During manufacturing, an ultra-thin aqueous primer dispersion is applied to the reverse side of the PVC film. This layer contains dual-functional polymers:

  • Hydrophobic anchors that molecularly bond with the PVC substrate.
  • Polar reactive groups that create high-energy cross-linking bonds with polyurethane (PUR) and EVA adhesives.

Performance Benefits

  • Zero Delamination: Exceeds 70 N/25mm peel strength test standards.
  • Heat Stability: Resists glue softening under high ambient temperatures (up to 85°C).
  • Moisture Impermeability: Seals the core against kitchen steam and bathroom humidity.
